Signature

Digital signature

The Digital signature module verifies Italian and European signatures (CAdES .p7m, PAdES on PDF, XAdES on XML and JAdES) and applies them with your smartcard, the CIE or remote cloud signing (CSC): cryptographic check, complete signer details, eIDAS qualified certificate, AgID chain, RFC 3161 timestamps and online OCSP revocation.

What it does

What the Digital signature module does

Qualified timestamp in the signature

You can embed in the signature (level -T) a qualified eIDAS timestamp from InfoCert: the date gains legal weight, not just a system date.

Multiple signature logos

Set several logos for the visible PDF signature appearance and pick which one to use when signing.

CAdES/PAdES/XAdES/JAdES verification

Automatic format detection and cryptographic signature check (RSA, ECDSA P-256/384, Ed25519), document integrity and BES/-T level. XAdES verification validated on real SdI receipts.

Signer & certificate

Extracts CN, tax code, issuer, validity; recognises the eIDAS qualified certificate + QSCD (QCStatements) and the CA on the AgID trust list.

Timestamps & OCSP

Verifies RFC 3161 timestamps (TSA, policy, precision) and the online OCSP revocation of the signer and the TSA.

Signature application

CAdES (.p7m), PAdES PDF (invisible or visible, with a logo and a chosen position), XAdES (XML, validated by xmlsec1) and JAdES (JWS) signing, using a smartcard/token via PIN or remote cloud signing.

Remote cloud signing (CSC)

Sign without a physical device through a Cloud Signature Consortium provider: authenticate to the service, choose the qualified credential and sign CAdES/PAdES.

Device & CIE (FEA)

Detects readers and smartcards (Bit4id, IDEMIA, Gemalto, A.E.T., Athena) and the Italian Electronic ID card as an advanced electronic signature.

Step by step

How it works

  1. Verify: drop a .p7m file or a signed PDF and read the full outcome for each signature.
  2. Enable online OCSP revocation to query the certificate status in real time.
  3. Device: insert the smartcard and detect the signing certificate with its badges.
  4. Sign: choose CAdES or PAdES, enter the PIN and get the signed file.
FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Which digital signatures can I verify?
CAdES signatures (.p7m files) and PAdES (signed PDFs). Probatio verifies the cryptographic signature (RSA, ECDSA P-256/384, Ed25519), integrity, BES/-T level and timestamps.
Does it recognise the eIDAS qualified certificate?
Yes: it reads the QCStatements (eIDAS qualified + QSCD), extracts CN, tax code and issuer, and checks whether the CA is on the AgID/EU trust list. On request it queries online OCSP revocation.
Can I sign my files with Probatio?
Yes: with a signing smartcard or token you apply CAdES (.p7m) and PAdES signatures on PDFs (invisible or visible), entering the PIN. The Italian Electronic ID card (CIE) is also supported as an advanced electronic signature (FEA).
