Case documents

Document chronology

Document chronology puts the documents of a case (deeds, PDFs, emails and PEC, office documents, photos and videos) in date order, working on them as a case file that saves itself next to the documents and resumes where you left it. For each document it shows every date found, each with the text before and after it and its role: publication or filing date, place and date, document date, statutory reference, cited date. The program suggests a date, but the user chooses or confirms it, and the report states who decided. In the app the module is called “Chronology”; it is not the scan history.

What it does

What the Document chronology module does

Dates from every source

Email and PEC (the date certified by the receipt), PDFs with signatures and timestamps, office documents, photos and videos from their metadata, the text in Italian and English, the file name. Pages with no text in scanned PDFs are read with OCR, on the computer.

The context of every date

Next to each date the surrounding text and the role it implies: a “published on” stamp repeated on every page becomes a single entry with the list of pages; a reference to a decree is not mistaken for the document date.

Suggestion and user choice

The suggestion is only the order of the candidates. The user confirms, picks another date or types one by hand with a note; with the keyboard you move through and confirm one document after another. Each document has its state: to confirm, confirmed, chosen by the user.

Preview in a separate window

The page holding the date, with the date highlighted, in a window that follows the selected document. Office documents, Word and Excel 97-2003 included, show their text and sheet cells; everything is read in an isolated process.

Order and case file

Order by date, then by hand by dragging rows. The case file flags documents changed or missing since they were read. It is deleted by moving it to the system bin, without ever touching the documents.

Report and attachment index

PDF and CSV report stating who decided each date; from the same case file the Attachment index is created, with the same order and titles.

Step by step

How it works

  1. Drop the folder of documents: the case file is created, or the existing one is resumed.
  2. For each document confirm or choose the date, helped by the context and the preview.
  3. Order, then generate the report or the Attachment index.
