Three formats, one engine
EML, EMLX and MSG are brought back to the same RFC 5322 message: the same readings and checks apply to all. Outlook's compressed RTF body and winmail.dat (TNEF) are decoded too.

The Email viewer module opens messages saved by any client — EML, Apple Mail EMLX and Outlook MSG, recognised from their bytes — in an isolated process, without executing anything and without contacting any server. It shows the message, all headers, the MIME structure and the full attachment tree with hashes, and saves it in the other formats without losing the signature.

Safe preview
HTML is sanitised: no scripts, inert forms, non-clickable links (the target shows on hover). Remote images are not loaded: they load only on request, after a warning explaining why contacting those servers reveals that the message was opened.
Rendered, text, HTML source
In a window of its own: the message as it appears, the plain text and the HTML source, next to the headers, attachments and MIME structure.
Attachment tree
Attached messages, winmail.dat opened into its attachments, MD5/SHA-1/SHA-256 hashes and the real type recognised from the bytes against the declared type. Save one attachment or all, or open it directly in another Probatio module.
Save as EML, EMLX or MSG
The same format is an identical copy; nothing is lost between EML and EMLX; a signed message becomes an MSG in the form Outlook uses to keep the S/MIME envelope, so the signature stays verifiable. You can also save the headers alone.
No action on a changed file
Every operation — save, conversion, attachment — carries the hash of what you saw: if the file on disk has changed in the meantime, the operation refuses.

Frequently asked questions
How do I open an .msg file without Outlook?
Drop it into the Email viewer: Probatio reads the MSG format directly, rebuilds the message and shows headers, text and attachments. You can save it as EML or EMLX.
Is opening a suspicious email with Probatio safe?
The message is read in a separate process, the HTML is sanitised, links don't open and remote images aren't loaded without your consent. No sandbox makes an attachment harmless: if you open it with another program, what that program does applies.
Do I lose the signature converting a signed email to MSG?
No: Probatio saves the signed message in the form Outlook uses to keep the S/MIME envelope, and the signature stays verifiable — a PEC too.
